Policies


Desktops

  • There are 30 computers on the main floor of Renfro Library, connected to the MHU network.
  • Students must save their work to the MHU “J” drive or to their own flash drive.
  • Once a student logs off of the computer, their work cannot be retrieved.
  • Students are to use headphones at a reasonable level to listen to audio from a computer.

  • Laptops

  • Renfro Library has 30 laptops for student use in the library.
  • They may not be removed from the library.
  • Any student who would like to use a library laptop must have a signed laptop contact on file.
  • Students must save their work to the MHU “J” drive or to their own flash drive.

  • Students are to use headphones at a reasonable level to listen to audio from a laptop.
  • Laptops may be borrowed for 4 hours.
  • For every hour or portion of an hour that a laptop is overdue, a fine of $5.00 will be added to the borrower’s account.

  • Group Study Rooms

  • There are 6 rooms available on the main level of Renfro Library for small group collaboration.
  • They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Group use has priority over individuals using the room.

  • Study Carrels

  • There are eleven study carrels (1-11) available to students and one for faculty use (#12).
  • Each room is equipped with a desktop computer.
  • Headphones must be used for audio.
  • Maximum of two students per room.
  • When all rooms are in use, we will keep a Waiting List and notify students as rooms become available.
  • Loan period is 2 hours. Fines are $1.00 per hour if returned late.
  • If there aren’t any students waiting, the room can be checked out for another 2 hours.

  • Theft

  • Willfully attempting to leave with materials that are not properly checked out is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct and state law.
  • The library staff has the right to search a patron’s possessions for library materials.
  • Students are required to show their MHU ID upon request of the library staff.
  • Any student who steals, destroys or defaces library property will be reported to Campus Security and Student Conduct Police.
  • Sanctions for theft and vandalism of library property may include restitution, payment of fees and fines, or other sanctions as determined by the Dean of Library Services.

  • Lost and Found

  • Items found in the library are placed in the Lost and Found behind the Circulation Desk.
  • These items are taken once a week to Student Life on the second floor of Wren Student Union.
  • Library staff will make a reasonable effort to notify the owner of the item if able to determine ownership.

  • Food, Drink, and Tobacco

  • Food and tobacco products (including vape devices) are prohibited in Renfro Library.
  • Covered drinks are allowed.
  • Students can eat in Mindspace.

  • Cell Phones and Audio Devices

  • Please be considerate of others around you.
  • Put your devices on silent or vibrate.
  • Use headphones or earbuds at a level at which only you can hear.
  • Have phone conversations outside or in Mindspace.

  • Photocopies and Printing

  • Currently, there is no charge for MHU students, faculty and staff to make photocopies or to use the printers.
  • Print only what you need.
  • Use PawPrints if you need to make multiple copies.
